Wiscasset Bridge By-Pass

Don't wait in traffic!

From the North

Take Route One South into Newcastle. Look for the Newcastle Dodge Dealership on your right. You will then see Homeport and a very large CATV tower, turn right before the tower onto Sheepscot Road.

Follow Sheepscot Road until you see the Sheepscot church on your left and a sign for WW&F railway museum, bear left at the intersection, DO NOT GO STRAIGHT.

This is still Sheepscot Road. You will cross the Sheepscot River and come to a stop sign at the intersection of Route 218. Bear left onto 218 (South) and this will bring you to the Wiscasset Village and Route 1 PAST the Bridge!

Or - Take a right on 218 just past the blinking light, Hooper Street. Take your next left on to Route 27 at the stop sign. (Irving Station) and about a 1/4 mile to Route 1 at the safety complex. Turn right to go south.

NOTE: - This entire bypass will save you at least a half-hour or more on a Sunday.

From the South

shortcut As you cross the Bath bridge look for Route 127 and the Gulf station. Take a Left behind the Gulf station.

Always Bear to your right, either Route 127 or Route 128 will bring you to Route 27.

Take a right, South on to route 27 which will bring you to Route 1 just before the Wiscasset Bridge!

Or if traffic is really bad when you go south on Route 27 you and reverse the North Directions.

Left at the Irving station on Route 27 Wiscasset, Left at the blinking light and North on 218, Right on to Sheepscot Road and you will come out on US Route 1 on Newcastle.

We hope you enjoy your stay and find this information helpful. While traveling to Maine the worst traffic is Friday North & Sunday South.
